Lessons from Golf for the Good to Great Game of Life

1. If you play badly, step up your enthusiasm and commitment because there’s the next game to play.

2. If you play well, step up on gratitude and humility because there's the next game to play.

3. The game is not against the other players. The game is with yourself on the road to mastery, in the company of others.

4. There are hazards on the golf course as in Life. Train so well that your ball of Life is always on the fairway where you can swing the club with ease and grace.

5. If it lands in the hazard, train yourself well enough to know how to get your ball of Life back to the fairway.

6. Know when to play with strength and power; and when to be gentle.

7. Pre-shot routine (preparation before the swing) is important for a successful outcome.

8. Think before action. When in action, let the body take over and let the mind be still.

9. Focus on the ball of Life in the moment and let where it lands take care of itself to hit far and long to win the game.

10. Let your gut guide you.

11. Awareness, Focus, Intention, Belief, Trust are your best friends.

12. Don’t keep getting coached and practising on the range (training ground). Game can only improve by playing on the course (playground) of Life.

13. Don’t keep playing. Game can only improve with getting coached and practising on the range / training ground.

14. Always play the full game. There’s greater progress on finishing the full game, however good or bad the game maybe.

15. There are multiple clubs in the golf kit of Life. Don't be a one-club player. The player who knows which club to play with in which situation is the player who wins the game.

16. Who you are Being determines whether you win or lose.

17. Have an aspirational handicap (metrics) and play to get there because thats what makes the game more fun, fulfilling and meaningful.

18. Play both the finite game (win the current game you are playing) and the infinite game (move from Fear to Love) to continuously improve your game.

19. Play with people you enjoy being with because that's what makes the game fun, fulfilling and meaningful.

20. Inspire your family to play with you to get more fun, fulfilling, meaningful time with them - at home, at work and at play; though these are 3 different roles and remember to bring the right role at the right place.

21. There is a right technique to play at mastery level. On your own, you will hit a ceiling of growth. Now to break through that ceiling, you will have to go through the pain of unlearning and relearning your swing under the supervision of your coach, otherwise the swing can go back to the default without you realising it.

22. Don't wait to get better to start playing because getting better is a lifelong journey and getting better gets accelerated when you start playing.

23. Prepare your body to act the way you want it to act through visualisation in the mind.

24. Intend. Believe. Plan. Act. Trust. Repeat ad infinitum.

25. Play early morning. That's when the mind, energy, body, heart and soul are naturally at their best. Have a lifestyle that enables that.

26. What you do the night before has an impact on the game on the next day. Preparing to win begins the night before.

27. It's a long game. You need to be at the highest level of health, fitness and joyous well-being to last that long and to enjoy the game.

28. Warm-up before the game otherwise the body will not follow through on your intention and results would be uninspiring.

29. Review and Reflection after each game tells you how to improve your game ongoingly from good to great.

30. Focus with laser sharp attention when you have to swing. Other times, enjoy the magnificent, energising, refreshing, rejuvenating beauty of Nature all around.

31. Playing is meditative, soothing, grounding, centring and uplifting; if you play with your Being instead of your Doing.

32. Have a rhythm for playing scheduled on your calendar. If it is not on your calendar, you will end up not playing.

33. If you are using too much effort to swing the club of life, the ball of results won't be in alignment with your intention. When the swing is with ease and grace, the ball moves in the line of your intention. It's Fear that stiffens the body and makes the mind move the body with force and effort. Believe. Trust. Swing.

34. On a bad shot, don't vomit your emotions on the caddy, the course, your clubs or people you are playing with. Don't avoid your emotions either nor numb yourself to them. Otherwise, the next shot will be just as bad.

The best is to process your emotions in the moment - be aware of the emotion, allow yourself to fully feel the emotion in the moment, become aware of the thought at the source of the emotion, embrace it to dissolve it and step into your Personal Inner Commitment to play.

35. Your Personal Inner Commitment - I am the world's best - is a place to come from, not a place to go to.

36. Have a weekly rhythm of coaching to have the mirror held by your coach move your game forward in the right direction.

37. Play to grow. Grow to play.

38. Play till your last breath because you can and it will make your every breath fun, fulfilling and meaningful.

39. Play for mastery. Play for contributing to others. Play with gratitude. Play with Love. Play for Love. Play Being Love. Play with reverence. Play with integrity. You will progress with greater ease, grace and velocity; and have lot more fun along the way.

40. Don't play at the cost of everything else in your Life. Have It All. Because Have It All requires higher levels of consciousness and higher levels of consciousness makes the good to great journey possible.

Keep playing to joyously lead yourself and your business from good to great, realize your dreams and have it all with ease, grace and gratitude; while having lots of fun and adventure along the way 💜

Loving you,
j.
