Transforming What it Means to be a Woman and What it Means to be a Man

Dear Peaceful Warriors on your Good to Great journey,

If our commitment is to lead ourselves and our businesses from good to great, realize our impossible unimaginable crazy-big dreams and have it all; then looking within and bringing out in the open the Unsaid about being a Woman or a Man to do our Inner Work would be another part of our journey together.

Lack of heart-warming, joyously fulfilling connection between husband and wife, mother and son, father and daughter can at times also be sourced in millions of years of built-up limiting beliefs about the other gender and one's own gender.

Both men and women would be served by doing their inner work to dissolve millions of years of limiting conditioning of what it means to be a man and what it means to be a women to become an Evolved Man and an Evolved Woman, the next stage in our species' evolutionary process, for us to create a Brave New World for our children by us breaking the cycle of generational transmission of Fear.

If most of the Indian businesses that we nurture to become Fortune Global 100, Fortune Global 500 and Forbes Global 2000 by 2047 are led by men, we would have failed in our Purpose to support people on their evolutionary journey to Have It All and be happy, healthy and prosperous because:

Men cannot Have It All, if women don't Have It All. 

Women cannot Have it All, if men don't Have it All.

Have It All:
i. Deeply fulfilling, successful, profitable business supporting us to live our purpose of life; gifting us with impact, contribution and financial freedom
and
ii. Loving, harmonious, positive, uplifting relationships at work and at home
and
iii. Happy, healthy, responsible, confident kids with their genius joyfully expressed
and
iv. Nourishing, nurturing ourselves to the highest level of health, fitness and joyous well-being - physically, energetically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually
and
v. Making a massive difference through the work we do

If we are committed to realize our highest potential, then our journey would be to put every part of us on the Operation Theatre of Inquiry using the surgical tools of Courage, Raw Honesty and Vulnerable Authenticity.

We will start exploring gender-sourced limiting beliefs inherited from generations through generations in a psychodramatic space for women first.

Mums At Work™ is a Tribe of all RYD Women committed to transform what it means to be a woman and inside of that, transform what it means to be a human being, to support all human beings to have it all, and be happy, healthy and prosperous.

Whenever the community is ready, we will begin an RYD Mens Group called Dads At Home™ for a once a quarter psychodramatic immersion to explore gender sourced limiting beliefs and the impact of that in realizing our highest potential. 

To begin with, once a quarter, I will lead a 2.5 hours Mums At Work EXPAND Event over Zoom with Psychodrama as the Transformative Modality for all our women members, under the supervision of Kay.

We are responsible for all that happens in our Space. Every problem in the world outside is a reflection of the darkness within us. More and more, we dissolve the darkness of Fear within us and progress towards being Love; more and more the world outside will transform from Fear, Survival and Scarcity to Love, Thrival and Abundance.

Leadership Depth, Craft Mastery and Business Excellence are Growth Levers of the evolutionary, transformative Good to Great journey.
 
Our work is about realizing our highest potential to have it all by creating massive positive impact through our work by strengthening our Leadership Depth, growing in Craft Mastery and amplifying Business Excellence.
 
There’s nothing to attain or achieve because we are on an endless Good to Great journey, with every tiny step forward in the right direction giving us the joyous fulfilment of growth.
 
The three growth levers are inter-linked, each contributing to the other two.
 
Leadership Depth is the foundation of the house, Craft Mastery is the walls of the house and Business Excellence is the roof of the house.
 
Gear 1 (Agility of Mind) in Leadership Depth supports us to grow to Stage 1 (Amateur) of Craft Mastery, enabling us to reach Mountain 1 (Mountain of Purpose) of Business Excellence.
 
We are now ready for the 2nd Spiral upwards: We strengthen ourselves in Leadership Depth to raise our consciousness to Gear 2 (Being of Service), which supports us to grow to Stage 2 (Professional) of Craft Mastery, enabling us to reach Mountain 2 (Mountain of Value) of Business Excellence.
 
We are now ready for the 3rd Spiral upwards: We strengthen ourselves in Leadership Depth to raise our consciousness to Gear 3 (Communicating Powerfully in the World of Others), which supports us to grow to Stage 3 (Expert) of Craft Mastery, enabling us to reach Mountain 3 (Mountain of Growth) of Business Excellence.
 
We are now ready for the 4th spiral upwards: We strengthen ourselves in Leadership Depth to raise our consciousness to Gear 4 (Delivering on our Word), which supports us to grow to Stage 4 (Mentor) of Craft Mastery, enabling us to reach Mountain 4 (Mountain of Scale) of Business Excellence.
 
We are now ready for the 5th spiral upwards: We strengthen ourselves in Leadership Depth to raise our consciousness to Gear 5 (Excellence), which supports us to grow to Stage 5 (Master) of Craft Mastery, enabling us to reach Mountain 5 (Mountain of Mastery) of Business Excellence.
 
So the answer to your question is – Yes, strengthening Leadership Depth supports us to grow in Craft Mastery and amplify Business excellence. But, before we can continue growing in Leadership Depth, we need to make an effort to grow in Craft Mastery and Business Excellence to step up to the next Gear of Leadership Depth.

What do I do if my Promise is no longer Valid?

​Integrity is about honouring our word which means - doing what I said I would do, by the time I said I would, in the way I meant to and if I miss to, I will restore my word.

Integrity is a Gear 4 spiritual value. We can only make a promise in Gear 4 and restore our word in Gear 4.

If we feel mad / bad / sad on breaking our word or when restoring it, we are in Gear 0. Therefore, it is important to consciously step up to Gear 4 to make a promise and consciously step up to Gear 4 to restore a promise and consciously step up to Gear 4 to release ourselves of a promise.

Gear 0 Default Consciousness sourced in Fear - I am feeling mad / bad / sad - low emotional state
Gear 1 Consciousness - I am extraordinary. I love myself.
Gear 2 Consciousness - You are extraordinary. I love you.
Gear 3 Consciousness - I trust the Universe. I trust the process of Life. I am a channel of impact. I am making a difference.
Gear 4 Consciousness - I am whole, complete and perfect. You are whole, complete and perfect. Life is whole, complete and perfect. I believe in myself. I believe in you.

Our resident Gear may be 1 but we can always consciously step up to Gear 4 in the moment to make a promise, restore a promise and release ourselves from a promise.

If it is difficult to step up to Gear 4 in the moment, then do your RYD Growth Habits to step up and then restore your word to give you power. Otherwise, restoring your word would take away your power.

When we break our word, no apologies are required. All that is required is restoring our word from Gear 4.

The question then could be, why is restoring our word a Gear 1 Habit?

It is a Gear 1 Habit to give us a gym to practise Agility of Mind to practise consciously stepping up to Gear 4 to make a promise, restore our promise or release ourselves from our promise.

What happens if we make a promise from Gear 0? - Then, our promise may harm us.

What happens if we make a promise from Gear 1? - Then, our promise may harm others and in turn, harm our own self, as it's in giving that we receive.

What happens if make a promise from Gear 2? - Then, the burden of honouring our promise is on us. We have not made the Universe our partner in honouring our word. It would be exhausting to honour our word. It's in a dance between me and the Universe that there is ease and grace. If I have to fulfil all my intentions only by myself, then that would be burdensome and back-breaking.

What happens if we make a promise from Gear 3? - We miss to get willing partnership from others to support us to fulfil our promise. A promise is nothing but an intention. We cannot fulfil any intention on our own. It is only in a joyous partnership with the Universe and others around us can our intention and our promises be fulfilled with ease and grace.

A question could be - How can I relate to people as extraordinary as I only have negative people around me? Well, our job is to focus on the tiny speck of goodness in them or move away from them till we have the strength to focus on the tiny speck of goodness in them and respond to that with positive energy. 

There are no straight, factory-fitted answers to every situation. Best would be to explore with your coach in your weekly deep-dive immersion to discover your Truth and the way forward on your Good to Great journey.

What is Enneagram?

I met my Enneagram mentor, Clarence Thomson, after 1.5 years. He is still young and handsome at 88 years. I reached out to him because I am now ready to integrate Enneagram with RYD. I had reached Stage 2 (Active Learning) of Craft Mastery in Enneagram before I took a break from it as I got busy with learning Psychodrama and Yoga where I am currently at Stage 3 of Craft Mastery (Apprenticeship with a Master of the Craft to become an Expert).

In Stage 4 of Craft Mastery, we become a Mentor by learning through teaching and coaching Experts on our craft.

In Stage 5 of Craft Mastery, we become a Master of our Craft by learning through teaching and coaching Mentors of our craft.

Only at Stage 3 of Craft Mastery of a particular modality / field can I begin the work of integrating that modality with RYD. The first stage of integration is when I can offer that learning to contribute to my coachees. The next stage of integration with RYD is when I coach the RYD Coaches on that modality and they reach the level of expertise to contribute to their coachees through that modality, which is when that modality becomes available to the entire RYD Circle of Love.

Psychodrama and Scaling-up have got integrated with Centre for Coaching Excellence (CCE), the school for RYD Coaches. In the next one year, Yoga of the Krishnamacharya tradition will get integrated with CCE. Psychodrama becomes relevant for a coachee when they climb to Gear 2 consciousness of their Leadership Depth Journey. Scaling-up as a framework becomes relevant when our coachee's business has reached Mountain 3 on their Business Excellence journey. Yoga is an RYD Transformative Practise in Gear 3 of the Leadership Depth journey.

Each modality is interesting and provides massive growth but when you integrate Coaching, Growth Habits, Community, Enneagram, Psychodrama, Yoga, Aana Pana, Vipassana; the inner journey from good to great (Leadership Depth) gets accelerated with greater ease and grace as there's simultaneous growth across all our 5 bodies - physical, energy, emotional, mental and spiritual - one Gear at a time.

Similarly in Business Excellence, there are different frameworks. But, magic happens when we integrate different frameworks because a beautiful Simplicity of a Whole emerges which is more powerful and effective than the individual frameworks.


Back to Enneagram - What is it?

To grow as a leader requires us to be deeply self-aware and have a structure to keep seeing one's own blind spots. Growth can come no other way. Strengthening our Leadership Depth is a result of ongoingly deepening our self-awareness and uncovering our Blind Spots.

Understanding our Enneagram (pronounced as ANY-a-gram) Style helps us to catch our default limiting habits and responses, which have made us captive to our worldview. It is like literally being caught up in a box. Both professional and personal growth requires us to break free from this box.

The Enneagram is a study of the 9 basic types of people and explains why we behave the way we do and points to specific directions for individual growth. It is an important tool to understand ourselves and people around us better; which is our pathway to greater business success, happy healthy kids, and loving harmonious positive uplifting relationships at work and at home.

​Clarence is Enneagram Style 7, which is my Style as well. So, his idea of teaching is rather different. My first homework is to watch the Disney movie - Alladin, because both Alladin and the Genie are Style 7. This is going to be one fun learning expedition. Through the process of learning, I am looking forward to recovering the fun part of me, which got lost along the way.

Enneagram has roots in Sufism.

Research in the American Journal of Psychiatry describes the Enneagram as a personality theory that characterizes nine distinct strategies by which the human psyche develops a worldview, and relates to the self and others. The theory proposes that by adulthood, individuals have developed a predominant personality strategy to cope with the external environment. Each of the nine core types described by the Enneagram has an associated basic fear, basic desire, and predictable pattern of behaviour in times of stress and security. The Enneagram uses these basic fears and desires to describe the essential motivations underlying much of the resulting behaviour. It thus captures a range of behaviour for each type and is capable of providing a great deal of insight into an individual's underlying psychology for greater awareness and growth. 

Enneagram is focused on internal motivations rather than external behaviours. It helps us uncover our blind spots, our behavioural patterns that everyone else can see except our own self, and provide a pathway to break those patterns. 

Personality is not something we have to accept as something fixed in us. It is a box that we have trapped ourselves in to protect ourselves. We built this box to protect ourselves in response to hurts in our growing years. Our personality is our self-defense mechanism that we have strengthened over the years to protect ourselves from our fears. 

In our RYD Language:
Hole-in-the-Soul in the spiritual body leads to small mind in the Mental Body, which leads to limiting roles in the Emotional Body, which leads to low energy in the Energy Body; which leads to a certain Personality expressed through the Physical Body. 

The below is the limiting expression of my Default Survival Consciousness sourced in Fear.

Having this depth of understanding provides us with a pathway to dissolve our fears in our conscious mind, sub-conscious mind and unconscious mind through RYD Growth Habits, RYD Transformative Practises and the various modalities integrated with RYD. This supports us to break free from the grip of the darkness of our fears; enabling us to journey towards Joyous Freedom of our Authentic Self, our undeniable greatness, our Inner Light, to make a massive positive impact through the spiritual playground of our business and through freeing our family of limiting patterns to support our children to realize their highest potential with ease and grace. 

 
Within RYD, we have the methodologies to dissolve expressions of fear from hole-in-the-soul in the spiritual body, small mind in the mental body, limiting roles in the emotional body and low energy state in the energy body. Enneagram helps to extend the RYD understanding to the physical body in terms of our default limiting behavioural patterns and strengths we have developed to deal with our fears, which together form our Personality. With greater awareness of our default limiting behavioural patterns and compensating strengths which also limit us since these strengths have been developed in response to fear, we can work on breaking free from our default fear-sourced behavioural patterns to give us greater access to our Power to Create Reality in alignment with our intentions and dreams.

With full understanding of how our Survival Consciousness, our default fears, show up in all our 5 bodies, our awareness about our own self expands supporting us to dissolve our fears and associated limiting patterns to realize our highest potential and make a massive positive impact by courageously living our Purpose through our work with greater ease, grace and velocity.

Here's the limitless expression of my Authentic Self. I am on a journey towards this limitless expression. ​

Our Whole Soul sourced in Love, the highest Spiritual Value, leads to limitless thoughts in our Mental Body (Big Mind), which leads to Peaceful Warrior roles in our Emotional Body. The Peaceful Warrior roles generate high uplifting, positive, creative energy in our Energy Body supporting us to live our Growth Habits through our Physical Body with joyous ease and grace. 

Simultaneously working to transform all our 5 bodies supports us to move forward on our journey of good to great with greater ease, grace and velocity. 

Greater understanding and awareness of our coachee through different lens would help us build a personalised journey for each one of our coachees to inculcate RYD Growth Habits and Rhythms from the entire RYD Habits Toolkit in a way that would most contribute to them.

Why WHY is Important?

In the early years of building my business, I had hired a super intelligent marketing consultant who had been a Chief Marketing Officer of leading brands of the country.
 
He told me Have It All and Realize Your Dreams as an offering won’t work, that it is too idealistic, that it is not a believable promise, that it will impact my credibility if I even talk about it.
 
Indra Nooyi’s interview went viral where she declared that women cannot have it all and invited women to accept that reality. That was around the same time when I was offering Have It All as a way of life to women through Mums At Work™, my first business, now a channel of impact of Realize Your Dreams Gym for Business, Leadership and Life Mastery™.
 
I believe growth gets accelerated when you have mentors holding the mirror for you. So, I had a Board of Advisors as soon as I started my entrepreneurial journey in 2010, after hanging up my corporate boots at American Express. Blossom Kochhar, India's leading woman entrepreneur from the times when entrepreneurship was not as yet fashionable, American Express' India Head and Genpact's global HR Head were part of the Board.
 
I wanted to have it all. I was a guilty young mother who quit her cushy senior executive corporate job because fear of not being loved by her kids was way bigger than the security of a fixed salary at the end of the month.
 
The way to solve for having it all for me was by giving it to others. I wanted to solve for and make available Having It All for women, the first community that I was inspired to work with. That Why for my business connected deeply with me because that’s what I most wanted for myself.
 
I intuitively knew my How – Agility of Mind, Being of Service, Communicating Powerfully in the World of Others, Delivering on my Word, Excellence.
 
But, the Board wasn’t interested in my Why and How. They only wanted to know my What and I didn’t have clarity on that. I iterated business model after business model from providing groceries and vegetables to women at corporates, hobby creative classes at their workplace, inspirational talks, networking events, part-time jobs, theme clubs, gender diversity programs for corporates, success coaching.
 
Finally, RYD was born 3 years later in 2013 after breaking 10 business models as an Integrated Entrepreneurship Program bringing together business coaching and success coaching. RYD continued to iterate from there, year on year, to what it has now become.
 
My first Chief Operating Officer in those early years, a senior leader from a global technology company, with vast amounts of operational experience, got my Why but didn’t connect with my How. She connected deeply with Having It All for herself as she was my coachee before she became my COO but questioned about coaching others on Having It All when she said she didn’t Have It All herself.
 
For me, Having It All is a journey and as I am being of service by supporting others to Have It All by connecting them to their Power to Create and doing much more of what I am coaching others to do, more of it will keep getting created for me as it’s in giving that we receive and it’s in doing before telling others to do.
 
I moved ahead with my Why, How and newly discovered What; leaving behind my partners on my initial journey – the senior marketing consultant, the board members, my COO, and other employees who had joined because I gave them a salary. We parted ways along the journey because I had not as yet understood the importance of partnering with only those people who were inspired by my Why, How, What in that order – team members, business partners, advisors and even coachees.
 
A solopreneur again after having failed to scale my first business. I took away valuable learnings from my initial experience. In retrospect, I didn’t have the Leadership Depth to scale my business at that time. I wasn’t able to bring people together to fulfil on a missing need in the world that spoke to my heart and soul. I didn’t have an understanding of the depth of craft mastery to make having it all available to people.
 
I used the playground of Business Excellence to learn and grow in Craft Mastery, and the playground of Life to learn and grow in Leadership Depth.
 
In response to the Board’s continued input every meeting before I formally dissolved the Board that I was a bottleneck of my own business, I birthed Centre for Coaching Excellence to coach, develop and train RYD Coaches for the business to continue creating massive positive impact long after I am gone, and even more so.
 
My COO introduced me to Vipassana. My marketing consultant taught me how to build my own website, which I am still running on my own. My earlier employees taught me to hire for Why and How, and to relate to my people as my coachees. Therefore, our coachees are RYD Heart (RYD Circle of Love), RYD coaches are RYD Soul and RYD Staff are The Source of RYD. Yet, there was a time when I cared more about my coachees than about my own people.
 
I learnt a lot more from my partners of my initial journey, but the above was their most significant contribution to me.
 
Yet,
 
If I had listened to the senior marketing consultant, I would now be a business coach like millions of others with my mind coaching the mind of my coachees; unable to support them to realize their highest potential, make massive positive impact and have it all.
 
If I had listened to the Board, I would now be offering part-time jobs to women with them still struggling as helpless victims under the burden of their triple responsibilities – kids, work and home.
 
If I had listened to my earlier employees, I would now be running Events for women with them feeling happy and grateful in the events, but go back to their normal lives with no experience of their greatness outside the events.
 
If I had listened to my earlier coachees, I would now be running clubs for professional women to be members of, experiencing a safe supportive space; but not inspired to realize their highest potential.
 
If I had listened to my husband, I would have become a soft-skills corporate trainer.
 
If I had listened to my Dad, I would have never quit my high paying job at Amex.
 
If I had listened to the breakdowns in my Life, I would have surely re-joined the corporate world.
 
Instead, I chose to stay true to my Truth, however laughable that idea was; walked alone for a large part of my journey; invested massively in craft mastery to answer the question ‘How to Have It All?’ from multiple points on the Ball of Perspective to contribute to my coachees; instead of spending that time and money in marketing myself and networking.
 
Today, Realize Your Dreams (RYD) is our community, Have It All is our Purpose and Good to Great is the journey we are all on with each one of these three as our brand promises and the jobs-to-be-done. Our next Hero’s journey is to nurture 60 Indian businesses to be Fortune Global 100, 300 Indian businesses to be Fortune Global 500 and 1000 Indian businesses to be Forbes Global 2000. This is a laughable idea just as Have It All and Realize Your Dreams was 14 years ago. I grew massively and experienced massive joyous fulfilment along the journey to make the laughable real that I am looking forward to the next leg of my journey to make the next laughable idea real.
 
I would have surely made money through the various other options that I was advised on – continue working with Amex, business coach focussed only on business, part-time jobs, events, clubs for professional women, soft-skills corporate trainer, re-joining the corporate world.
 
But, I would have left a lot of impact on the table because Massive Impact is an outcome of being true to your Why. I can’t claim to have made massive impact, yet what I have created so far is much more massive than I would have with any of the various options I was advised to take on.
 
Since Money is a perfect expression of our creativity and the difference we are making, the revenue of our business is a measure of our impact. Building your business on only a financial model will leave a lot of impact, and therefore, lot of money on the table.
 
Your Why and How is the oxygen of your business. You can be happy with the success you are creating and yet, you can create super success along with transforming the world, and yourself as an outcome of that. Then, why not choose that?
 
Let’s correlate Why, How and What concept with the ideas of different Thought Leaders to explore different points on the Ball of Perspective, each equally true and powerful, for greater clarity, understanding and ease of implementation in our own lives, personally and professionally. It’s only in implementing the learnings and insights that the learnings and insights have any meaning and value.

Live and communicate from Inside-Out to inspire action from your people and your customers, and create Greatness.

i. Your WHY is your purpose, cause, or belief. WHY does your company exist? WHY do you get out of bed every morning? And WHY should anyone care about the work you do?
 
ii. Our HOWs are the actions we take when we are at our natural best and are living out our WHY. It’s HOW you bring your WHY to life that makes you and your company unique. As a result, the combination of your WHY and HOWs is like your organization’s fingerprint.
 
iii. Every single company and organization on the planet knows WHAT they do. This is true no matter how big or small, and no matter what industry. Everyone is easily able to describe the products or services a company provides or the job function they have within that system. WHATs are easy to identify and important to have, but are less impactful than the WHY.

Communication is Non-Verbal

93% of the communication is non-verbal through facial expressions, tone, accents on certain words etc. and yet all these non-verbal expressions are the outcome of something deeper within.

Our thoughts in our mental body lead to emotions in our emotional body, which lead to energy state in our energy body, which lead to facial expressions, tone, accents on certain words and body language in the physical body. 

At the very source of our thoughts in our mental body is who we are BEING in our Spiritual Body - Hole in the Soul or Whole Soul, Darkness or Light, Fear or Love.

It all boils down to:

Am I being my Hole in the Soul, my Default Survival Consciousness?
i. I am not good enough
or
ii. I am not important
or
iii. I am all alone. No one loves me.

Or;

Am I being my Whole Soul - my undeniable Inner Light dissolving the Darkness of the Hole in the Soul in me?

I am Massive Impact is the Truth hidden by I am not good enough.

I am a Master Contributor is the Truth hidden by I am not important,

I am Infinite Love which is the Truth hidden by I am all alone. No one loves me.

We first accept the Truth intellectually, then experience the Truth intellectually at the level of the mind, then experience the Truth emotionally at the level of the heart and finally, experience the Truth spiritually at the level of the deepest Inner Knowing.

Leadership Depth is the journey within to dissolve the limiting habits of physical body, energy body, emotional body, mental body and the spiritual body through RYD Transformative Practises, also known as RYD Growth Habits, to realize our Highest Potential by dissolving the darkness of the evolutionary fears within to reach the treasure of our undeniable greatness, our Inner Light.

Leadership Depth journey in itself is a steep climb up but if played out on the playground of Business Excellence using Craft Mastery as another Growth Lever to grow both on the inside and in the world outside to make a massive difference, realizing our highest potential becomes a fun game supporting us to realize our impossible, unimaginable, crazy dreams and have it all with ease and grace.

We can focus on band-aiding by trying to change our body language or developing an executive presence or building a personal brand working hard to create success at the cost of everything else to fill the hole in our soul; 
or 
we can go to the very soul of the matter and transform who we are as a human-being to realize our highest potential and make a massive impact by living our Purpose this Lifetime through our work and have it all with ease and grace. 

Gear 3 Leadership Muscle is Communicating Powerfully in the World of Others. We reach here by relating to our own self as extraordinary in Gear 1 (Agility of Mind leadership muscle) by dissolving limiting beliefs about our own self and relating to others as extraordinary in Gear 2 (Being of Service leadership muscle) by dissolving limiting beliefs about others. In Gear 3,
others relate to us as extraordinary by us dissolving limiting beliefs about life itself.

In Gear 3, we are sourced in vulnerable authenticity, humility, childlike trust and faith. We become an Empty Space for people to discover who they are. That's when we dance in conversation with people in our space, with words and without words, deeply understanding and being deeply understood.

How Can we Stay More in the Moment?

​Pratik, Thank you for your One Question:
How can we stay more in the moment to be aware of our thoughts, feelings, etc which can allow us to operate from a higher gear?

Before we can play any sport well, 3 things are required to be brought together:
1) Learning the right technique of playing the sport from a coach
2) Practising the right technique on the training ground
3) Playing on the playground which tells us how much we have progressed in learning the technique as measured by the ease and grace of our play and number of wins

Consciousness is defined as Awareness of our thoughts in our mental body, feelings in our emotional body, sensations in our physical body, quality of energy in our energy body and love or fear in our spiritual body.

When I put my hand in the fire, if I have no sensation of my hand burning, I will not pull away my hand and my hand will keep burning. It's only because I have awareness of the sensation of burning that I respond by pulling away my hand from the fire.

If we have awareness of our thoughts, feelings, sensations, energy level and being (love or fear), we will never think thoughts, speak words and take actions that harm us or harm other people. When we harm other people, we are harming our own self because it's in giving that we receive. If we have awareness of our thoughts, feelings, sensations, energy level and being (love or fear), we would think thoughts, speak words and take actions that massively contribute to our own self and massively contribute to all beings in our space.

Therefore, Leadership Development is about raising our Human Consciousness. A great leader has a much higher Consciousness than a good leader. A good leader has a much higher consciousness than a bad leader. That is why Bapu Gandhi was a great leader and Hitler was a bad leader.

The RYD Growth Lever - Leadership Depth - is about raising our consciousness from the darkness of unconsciousness in Gear 0 to our Inner Light of full consciousness in Gear 5. RYD Transformative Practises, also known as RYD Growth Habits in each Gear support us to raise our consciousness one Gear at a time from Gear 0 all the way to Gear 5.

Greater our consciousness, greater our awareness of our thoughts, feelings, sensations, energy and being (love or fear).

Like in sports, it is not enough to learn the technique of the RYD Growth Habit. It is not even enough to learn the technique and daily practise the RYD Growth Habit. All 3 things are required to be done for raising our consciousness to be aware, moment to moment, of our sensations, energy, feelings, thoughts, being (fear or love) to be a great leader creating massive positive impact and have it all:
1) Learning the right technique 
2) Practising the right technique on the training ground during daily Morning and Evening Holy Hour
3) Playing on the playground which tells us how much we have progressed in learning the technique as measured by the ease and grace of our play and number of wins - Which means bringing the RYD Growth habits into our everyday life, at work and at home. It's not enough to do gratitudes and acknowledgements morning and evening. Are we playing to be in appreciative acknowledgment of our own self and be grateful for all that we have, moment to moment, as we are playing the game of life? It's not enough to meditate in the morning and evening. Are we practising observing our breath and sensations through the day? It's not enough to do 1 hour of physical fitness daily. Are we standing and sitting with the right posture, moment to moment? Are we sleeping adequate number of hours to be fully rested?

The Vast Sky

Let me tell you a story. The name of the story is - The Vast Sky

​There are 4 characters in this movie - Little Me, Critical Ogre, Hardworking Rescuer, Bored Avoider.

Little me was happy once upon a time and loved flying high in the vast sky of her limitless possibilities. 

Unknowingly and because they didn't know any better, adults around her squeezed her happiness out of her by being critical of her instead of nurturing and loving her unconditionally; which is what Little Me needed to grow up to be a Happy, Genius Me. 

When the happiness was squeezed out of her, a Critical Ogre got birthed who constantly made Little Me small that Little Me forgot that - 'She is whole, complete and perfect as she is right now. People are whole, complete and perfect as they are right now. Life is whole, complete and perfect as it is right now.' 

The Hardworking Rescuer got birthed to protect the Little Me from the Critical Ogre and worked incredibly hard to please the Critical Ogre but the Critical Ogre was never pleased and always found more reasons to find fault with the Little Me who became smaller and smaller and smaller; completely forgetting that she is extraordinary as she is. Habits, Success, Impact, Wealth, Relationships don't make her extraordinary. She makes Habits, Success, Impact, Wealth, Relationships extraordinary.

Bored Avoider was then birthed. Anytime, Little Me saw a little bit light of her Inner Light in her dark tunnel and made an attempt to live as an expression of her undeniable Greatness, the Bored Avoider would show up and snuff out any idea of doing anything that would take the Little Me closer to her Inner Light, her highest potential. 

The Bored Avoider is pretty sneaky. She had tons of things to tell the Little Me to stop her from climbing to the top of her Mount Everest - 'All this is boring. This is not possible. This is not logical. This is not practical. We have other important things to do. This is not exciting enough to do. This doesn't resonate. Show me evidence before I will believe. How can I believe? This doesn't fill me up with passion. This is not fun. This doesn't connect with our Purpose. I don't agree with this. This is not what we want. I know better than anyone else around us. Learning is boring because it is of no use. Learning is useless because I know better. What's the point? Life is meaningless.'

In order to stop the Little Me from taking effective action to become the Big Me; the Bored Avoider, the Critical Ogre, the Hardworking Rescuer would tell all kind of lies to the Little Me which the innocent Little Me believed in, forever trapping the Inner Light inside of her which wanted to find a way out to fly high to the Vast Sky to make the Little Me's world a better, brighter, happier place.

One day, a Peaceful Warrior came riding on her horse because the Little Me had an intense burning desire to fly high in the Vast Sky of her limitless possibilities. The Peaceful Warrior was funny because she didn't battle the enemies. She simply embraced them with so much love that the Bored Avoider, the Critical Ogre and the Hardworking Rescuer simply dissolved leaving the space for the Little Me to become Happy Big Me; unlearning, relearning and courageously taking powerful, effective actions in alignment with her impossible, unimaginable dreams to step out from the darkness of mediocrity to the light of greatness by being of service to people around her with so much love and passion through her work which maximised her growth, her potential ongoingly for her to have it all and be massive positive impact; making her feel deeply grateful, joyously fulfilled and divinely blessed, moment to moment.

The Foundation of the Business Excellence Journey

Skip this article if you want to build a good business. But, if you want to build a great business, then this is the foundation of all that you will do in your Business Excellence journey.
 
Without this piece which I will share in a bit, there is no heart and soul in our business. A great business is all about heart and soul; supporting our mind, body and energy to play full out. In a good business, heart and soul are buried deep inside, and work is a list of things to do instead of the joy of building magnificence in the world through our work.
 
As a business coach, this is fundamentally the most important thing I do – get people in touch with their Purpose and their Spiritual Values that bring deep fulfilment and blissfulness to their soul, and their Big Hairy Audacious Goal that engages their heart with the joy of playing the great game of business to make a massive impact through their work. Everything else on the Business Excellence journey is a piece of cake. Most leaders struggle so much with everything else that they feel that’s what is more important. But, the struggle is because the foundation is not in place. If you want to build a great organization with ease and grace, then get this piece right.
 
An organization is a living organism and has a heart and a soul, as much as each individual who is a part of this community. If each individual’s heart and soul vibrates in sync with the organization’s heart and soul, then the whole organization will move forward towards fulfilling on its shared Purpose with joyous velocity and make a massive difference as measured through its Revenue and Profitability.
 
Money is an expression of the difference we are making. No customer will give us one rupee if we are not making a difference to their lives through our products and services. You go to the market and pick up a loaf of bread and pay Rs 40/- for it. That Rs 40/- is in gratitude for the farmer having sown the grain, the baker for baking the bread, the packager for packaging the bread, the transporter for transporting the bread to the nearest retail outlet and the shop-keeper next to your house for keeping the bread for you to buy from to fulfil your need to have bread on your dining table. That Rs 40/- is for the farmer, baker, packager, transporter, shop-keeper for having been of service to you.
 
The movement of money is merely a movement of people being of service to each other. Revenue is the difference you are making to your customers. That is why the revenue your business earns is an expression of the positive impact your business is creating in the world. Grow your business revenue massively because that is a measure of your impact, the measure of the difference you are making through your business.
 
Profit is the difference you are making to your employees, business partners and all other stake holders. Greater a difference you make to your employees, business partners and all other stakeholders engaged in delivering your product / service to your customers, greater their hearts and souls would get engaged with the journey that your organization is on, greater Operational Excellence you will see your people innovatively and creatively explore, experiment and implement to reduce the effort and energy required to serve the customers at the levels they have no right to expect, resulting in higher profitability. Grow your profitability massively because that is a measure of your contribution to your people, of the difference you are making in their lives.
 
So, what is that foundation and how do we go about discovering it and implementing it?
 
The foundation of Business Excellence is Purpose, Core Values and the Big Hairy Audacious Goal.
 
The Purpose is the Why of your business, the very reason of existence of your business.
 
The Core Values is the How of your business, the rules of the great game of business you are playing, the guiding light for you and your people which will lead you and your people from good to great.
 
The Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) is the What of the business, the game you are playing to fulfil on the shared Purpose of your organization. The BHAG is a milestone on the journey to fulfil on the Shared Purpose of your organization.
 
If you can boil your business to 1 word or a phrase, that’s a Wow. Does the same word or phrase show up in your Purpose, Core values, BHAG, job-to-be-done, brand-promises, profit / x?
 
Let’s take RYD as an example:
 
Our Purpose is to support people to Have It All, and be happy, healthy and prosperous.
 
One of our Core Values is Excellence. We define this core value for ourselves as:
Excellence - I love, accept and like myself as I am right now. I love, accept and like you as you are right now. I love, accept and like life as it is right now: We play to the world’s best in what we do by learning from Masters from around the world. We actively work on all the 3 RYD Growth Levers (Leadership Depth, Craft Mastery, Business Excellence) to joyously lead ourselves and our work from good to great, realize our dreams and have it all with ease and grace; while having lots of fun and adventure along the way. We realize our highest potential to make a massive impact by living our Purpose through the work we do. Our dreams are impossible, unimaginable and crazy because that defines the growth we have committed ourselves to this Lifetime. People experience each other as extraordinary in our space.
 
Our BHAG is:
RYD 2047 - Our BHAG is to be the world’s best Transformation Ecosystem nurturing 60 Indian Businesses to be Fortune Global 100, 300 Indian Businesses to be Fortune Global 500 and 1000 Indian Businesses to be Forbes Global 2000 as Businesses we coach become Spaces of Grace for people to joyously lead themselves and their work from good to great, realize their dreams and have it all; supporting India to be the world's most developed, beautiful, greenest nation with her citizens happiest, healthiest and the most prosperous; creating a Brave New World.
 
Can you see how the phrase Have It All appears in all the 3 components of the Foundation of our Business – Purpose, Core Values, BHAG?
 
In fact, this phrase appears even in our job-to-be-done, brand-promises and profit / x. More on this in future articles.
 
Have It All creates a horizontal alignment for us on the Vision Summary, a Scaling-up tool, with it appearing in our Core Values, Purpose and Brand Promises.
 
Have It All also creates a vertical alignment for us on the Vision Summary with it appearing in our Purpose, BHAG and One year Goals.
 
Our one year Goal has the metric to measure our progress towards our BHAG and Purpose, one year at a time. This metric is Number of Businesses in which we are coaching the CEO and their Leadership Team to support them and their people to Have It All.
 
There’s another horizontal alignment in the Vision Summary between 3HAG (3 Years Highly Achievable Goal), 1HAG (1 Year Highly Achievable Goal) and Quarterly Priorities through the same metric as above. That metric is represented as X in the ratio Profit / X, where X being Number of Businesses in which we are coaching the CEO and their Leadership Team to support them and their people to Have It All.
 
Since Profit is maximized by maximizing Revenue and maximizing Operational Excellence to reduce cost of delivery, Profit is the difference we are making to our customers, employees, business partners and all stakeholders engaged in delivering our product / service to our customers.
 
If our Profit / X is the difference we are making to our customers, employees, business partners and all stakeholders per business, then our whole strategy is about making that happen.
 
Because of the above clarity, defining our Strategy becomes easier. Reminder of what is Michael Porter’s definition of Strategy – Strategy describes how a company creates a unique and valuable position through a set of differentiating actions.
 
Our unique and valuable position is: Have It All
 
Important thing to note here is that once we became clear on our Purpose, Core Values and BHAG, it gave us clarity on how to re-architect ourselves as below which becomes one part of the set of differentiating actions we are taking to create a unique and valuable position in the mind of our customers or coachees as we call them:
1. Coach one person for 100 years than coach 100 people for one year.  Why?
i. Because one Gear 5 CEO will create greater impact in the world and support more people to Have It All than 100 Gear 1 CEOs.
ii. Because to that one Leader, the quantum of impact and transformation available would be exponential.
iii. Because coaching one person deeply over 100 years is far more fulfilling for the coach because coaching to that much depth grows the coach in massive magnitude than coaching 100 coachees on the surface.
 
2. Coach one organization with CEO and their Leaders over many years than many CEOs for one year. Why?
i. Because it is way more easier for the CEO to lead themselves and their business from Good to Great when their entire leadership team is also on their good to great journey.
ii. Because Greatness is a 20 years game, not a fad of the season. It is exciting in the beginning, magnificent in the end but messy all the way through in the middle.
iii. Because it would take a significantly skilled coach high on craft mastery to journey long-term with the business they are coaching than doing short-term interventions, enabling massive growth for the RYD Coaches.
 
 
3. Coach one family than many individuals. Why?
i. Because we progress faster on our good to great journey with greater ease and grace when our spouse, siblings and other family members are also on their good to great journey.
ii. Because if both parents are on their good to great transformation journey, their children will organically and naturally start travelling their own good to great journey to have it all creating greater impact in the world with less effort.
iii. Because the coaching will be deeper and create a much bigger difference to the coachee, if the coach has context of the family that the coachee belongs to. Making a much bigger difference to the coachee is far more fulfilling for a coach as it requires the coach to learn, grow and contribute to a much greater depth and width.
 
The above strategy is not because we want to make more money. The strategy is defined to support us to fulfil on our shared Purpose and shared BHAG with greater ease, grace and velocity.
 
Revenue and profitability is the wagging of the dog’s tail. Most businesses either catch the tail and keep moving it to make it wag; or beat the dog to make it wag the tail. How is all that going to make the tail wag?
 
The only way the tail will wag on its own is to feed the dog. Feeding the dog is being of service to your customers, employees, business partners and all stakeholders. You feed the dog, the tail will automatically wag with joyous ease and grace.
 
Whenever we are struggling and working extremely hard to create results, it is because we haven’t found the tiny action to take to create the results with ease and grace.
 
How do you determine the Purpose, Core Values and BHAG of an organization which has grown without this foundation?
 
Irrespective of the age of the organization, the founder is key to this discovery and articulation. It is the founder’s purpose, founder’s spiritual values and founder’s vision of the impact they want to create in the world that will show the way to the organization’s purpose, values and BHAG. The outer reason may be wealth creation but it is never truly that.
 
If you are a second-generation business leader, spend some time with the founder understanding what makes their heart sing, their soul dance, their mind fill with the joy of creation and their energy soar passionately in the vast sky of limitless possibilities. Each human being has an intrinsic need to be a channel of impact to experience their undeniable greatness. The soul hungers for that. You would need to learn to be a minimum of a Gear 3 leader to communicate powerfully in the world of the founder to have a conversation that deeply fulfills both of you to uncover their purpose, spiritual values and BHAG.
 
If you are the founder, invest time with your coach to discover your Purpose, your spiritual Values, your 25 years Vision of the impact you want to create in the world for which your business is the structure of success.
 
Having discovered and found an experiential connection with your purpose, spiritual values and vision, it is time to touch, move and inspire your people with the reason of your existence, the difference you want to make, the future you want to create with the passion that surges through your body. You can’t fake it. You have to communicate from the depths of your heart and soul to connect with your people’s hearts and souls. That’s how Martin Luther King, Bapu Gandhi spoke and had the people of their nation fulfil on their vision, on their Purpose. To speak with the vulnerable authenticity of that energy, you need to learn to be at least a Gear 3 leader.
 
As you uncover your purpose, you have to also find an experiential linkage between what your Purpose is and what is the Purpose of your people. Lead with questions, ask them what they most want to create in this lifetime, what their Quest is and teach them that it’s in giving that we receive for them to understand that the only way to get what they want is to give to others what they want for themselves and that, then becomes their Purpose. Business Excellence journey, as all journeys are, is an iterative process. We continue to iterate forward, continuously learning, continuously evolving, continuously making a bigger difference than before. The journey of greatness is endless and is iterative.
 
The Purpose is not going to change much, nor Values, though the articulation of the same may continue to evolve as you get more clarity through your conversations with yourself and with your people.
 
Make sure your BHAG is a measure of your Purpose and has a metric to measure if you and your people are progressing towards fulfilling on your shared Purpose.
 
Purpose is a direction, your north star, and therefore you will never ever fulfil on it; though you will keep moving towards it as it guides you on the direction that you need to take.
 
How to be the Gear 3 Leader to communicate powerfully in the world of Others to create the above foundation?
 
Here are few Distinctions with respect to Communicating Powerfully in the World of Others (Gear 3 Leadership Muscle). A Distinction is a distinct point on the Ball of Perspective that give us Power to Create our Reality in alignment with our impossible, unimaginable, crazy dreams.
 
1) In Gear 1, we relate to our own self as extraordinary. In Gear 2, we relate to other people in our Space as extraordinary. It's only in Gear 3, other people begin to relate to us as extraordinary. All of us want to be in Gear 3 but to get there, one has to go through the fire of Gear 1 and Gear 2.
 
Interestingly, by the time we reach Gear 3, other people admiring us doesn't even matter anymore because we have become an empty space for other people to discover themselves; a channel of impact for people to draw from the Universe what would most serve them.
 
2) Ego is nothing but a human being's self-defense mechanism to protect oneself from the pain of one's own Hole in the Soul. Let this understanding support us to be loving kindness to all people in all our conversations because we know the pain of the Hole in our Soul.
 
3) The 3 growth levers equally exercised supports us in our good to great journey to realize our highest potential - Leadership Depth, Business Excellence and Craft Mastery. As a leader, our job is to support our people to realize their highest potential. By being clear which growth lever is not fully strengthened for our people, we can help them understand the barrier in their growth and help them build their structure of success to maximise their growth and therefore, their happiness and fulfilment.
 
4) If people are not on their good (Gear 0) to great (Gear 5) journey, they would be operating from Gear 0, from the hole in their soul. Our highest contribution to them would be to raise our consciousness to Gear 4 (Delivering on Our Word leadership muscle) which helps them to step up to Gear 1 (I am extraordinary and I love myself) in our space, helps them experience their own greatness in our space; supporting them to learn, grow and contribute much more effectively.
 
Gear 4 is the domain of Integrity. Gear 4 is also the domain in which when I say - I believe in you, you will viscerally feel my belief in you. That creates the space for you to step up to Gear 1 in my space. But, if I have broken words in our relationship, it will come in the way for me to step up to Gear 4 in our relationship. So, restoring my broken word to you supports me to step up to Gear 4 in our relationship, which is when I can look straight into your eyes and say - I believe in you; and you will experience my belief in you and relate to your own self as extraordinary at an experiential level.
 
5) Happiness and Fulfilment is an experience of growth. If we are not growing, we are dying. The highest growth available to us is in realizing our highest potential. We define and, therefore, limit our highest potential by our dream. More impossible, unimaginable, crazy our dream; more growth we have gifted ourselves this lifetime; provided we play the game to realize our dreams. Help people discover their impossible, unimaginable, crazy dream that scares them a bit because if their dream doesn't scare them, then their dream is not big enough. Support them to build a structure of success for realizing their dreams and help them to identify the first tiny step to take from their structure of success. This is a foundation for communicating powerfully in the world of others.
 
Big Hairy Audacious Goal is the impossible, unimaginable, crazy dream at an organizational level. Help people discover the linkage between their personal impossible, unimaginable, crazy dream to the organizational BHAG, and the linkage between their personal purpose to the organizational purpose to make the organizational Purpose and BHAG a part of the shared organizational consciousness owned by all people. Overtime, only those people who resonate with the shared organizational Purpose and BHAG will continue marching forth to lead the business from good to great, others will move out on their own journey some place else.
 
Lead from your heart and soul to lead yourself, your people and your business from good to great by supporting your people to realize their dreams and have it all to realize your dreams, have it all and make a massive difference to our country and the world 💜

It's a Friday Note by the CEO to all employees.

It is such a simple, low effort habit for transforming your culture and yet, most CEOs miss it.

Customer Stories: As a result of our company being around, how are we improving someone's lives? A business exists to serve customers. Why does our work matter?

5. What are my Learnings and Insights this week that could inspire my people to become the greatest versions of themselves?

6. What is a question I want broad input on from my people?

7. Inviting inputs from your people to get a pulse of the organization: It could be as simple as - Please share your thoughts, questions and ideas to help us make a bigger difference to you and our customers.
