What is so Special about Indian-origin CEOs?

The question to me during the CEO Bootcamp in Spain was - What is it in the Indian CEOs that they are taking over the world? Everyone looked at me to hear my response. My response was - It is because the Indian CEOs have spiritual depth.

If we are fortunate enough to have spiritual depth as a gift from our ancient heritage, then why is it that we haven't been able to birth Indian Global Giants? There are only 8 Indian businesses in Fortune 500 and only 2 Indian businesses in Global 100.

Why is it that Indians are more successful in the West than in the land of their birth. Saying that the Indian Government is at fault is simply not taking responsibility and accountability of what we have not delivered. India's progress and development is squarely on the shoulders of Indian Business Leaders.

What is our lack? Here's my hypothesis:
1. Staying in India, we don't focus on accessing our Spiritual Depth. While who leave our shores and invest time in accessing their spiritual depth rise to the top in a foreign land. Another word for Spiritual Depth is Leadership Depth because leadership development is all about raising human consciousness. It's time we looked within to connect to our spiritual depth lying dormant within instead of complaining about all that is messed up with India and looking with shiny eyes to the West. If something is messed up with our country, it is for us to solve for it instead of looking at ways to migrate to the west. There is a reason we were born in India, there is a reason we are born in the communities that we have a privilege to call our own; which is to contribute and make a difference to our country, our communities. As we contribute and make a difference to our country and the communities we belong to, we will fulfil on our purpose and realize our highest potential. Only that tree grows to its true height which has strong roots.

2. The 2nd reason that Indians rise to the top in global businesses is because they have successfully brought together within themselves their Indian Spiritual Depth with the Business Excellence of the West. If we need to learn something from the West, it is business excellence. The amount of research that is done in the US on what it takes to build a great business is phenomenal. No wonder US has the highest number of businesses in top 100 - 54 US businesses with the next country at only 15.

3. The 3rd reason why we haven't birthed as many Indian Giants in our land - compare 2 Indian Businesses in top Global 100 vs 54 American Businesses in top Global 100 is because we haven't invested time in contributing through our Thought Leadership. Another word for Thought Leadership is Craft Mastery.

Thought Leadership gets strengthened if we play to be the world's best in the domain / industry we are in. It's not enough to be the best in India. What would it take for us to be the world's best? If we keep chasing revenue and profit, we will only dance with mediocrity. If we play the game to be the world's best to make a massive difference to the communities we serve through our business, revenue and profit will chase us.

What we can believe, we can make happen. If we can collectively believe that in 100 years of India's rebirth, our country would be the world's most developed, beautiful, greenest nation with her citizens happiest, healthiest and the most prosperous; leading humanity forward to a Brave New World of love, peace and joy with 1000 Indian Businesses in Forbes Global 2000, 300 Indian Businesses in Fortune Global 500 and 60 Indian Businesses in Global 100; then we can make it happen.

It is in our collective consciousness that our next rebirth is etched out. In 1947 was our first rebirth in the imagination of one man - Bapu Gandhi. In 2047 will be our 2nd rebirth in the imagination of our collective consciousness. It's from belief that anything is birthed. Belief is the fuel in the car. Logic pushes the car from behind.

In 23 years, China has become the country which has birthed the largest number of global giants, striding ahead of US with 142 Chinese businesses and 136 US businesses in Fortune Global 500. There are only 8 Indian businesses in Fortune Global 500.

​The world needs India's calming effect and the wisdom of our ancient heritage to lead humanity forward. Before we can lead, we have to step-up and believe that we can become an economic and a business world leader, and then play to win that game. We don't have to beg to be a permanent member on the Security Council. We need to be invited. We don't need to prove our worth. We need to contribute through the spiritual playground of business. 

That is the Brave New World I am inviting you to create where Businesses are a playground to raise human consciousness, to evolve humanity to the next level and Indian business leaders leave a legacy of massive positive impact and thought leadership that sustains beyond their lifetime.

Let's together co-create a Brave New World where there is Monday morning excitement to come to work; people live their purpose through the work they do and work with joyful passion; relating to each other as extra-ordinary and with love, gratitude, reverence; every act is done with mastery consciousness not for a positive appraisal but because it deeply fulfils people to do it that way; integrity is expressed as being on time every time, doing what is said by the time it is said not because boss or customer is chasing but because honouring one's word is the only way to live; where everyone plays to have it all - deeply fulfilling successful profitable business, loving harmonious positive uplifting relationships, happy healthy responsible kids with their genius joyfully expressed and lots of nourishing nurturing me-time; while making a massive difference through the work we do.

Then, there will be a Space of Grace in Businesses  and because of that, in the world. We will have a world where each one will joyously lead themselves and their work from good to great, realize their greatest dreams in deepest communion with their highest selves and have it all with ease and grace; while having lots of fun and adventure along the way. 

Ready to play the game to lead yourself and your business to be the world's greatest?

That's all that is needed for India to realize her dreams. The only way to realize our dreams is to support others to realize their dreams. The only was we can have it all is by supporting others to have it all. 

But, it all begins with Believing.

Do you believe not Will-se and not Logic-se, but Dil-se and Soul-se, that you are here to make a massive difference by leading yourself and your business to be the world's greatest?

Journey to the Top

Our work on the RYD Journey is to awaken our inner guidance, our Inner Wisdom. In Gear 0, the noisy voice of our small mind and our Hole in the Soul is so loud that we can't hear the gentle, soothing, centering, grounding, loving, nurturing, nourishing voice of our Inner Wisdom, our Big Mind, our Whole Soul.

Let's keep doing our daily RYD Habits with integrity, commitment, passion and enthusiasm to strengthen our Big Mind and to reduce the power of our small mind so that the noisy decibel level of its voice comes down for us to hear the soft whispers of our Big Mind.

The RYD Journey is over 3 tracks - starter, champion and mastery. We tend to give up on our habits because we experience failure on a daily basis as it is super difficult to be consistent. That is why most people give up on growth habits.

But, that is the design of the journey. We progress not because we never fall off. We progress because we come back every time we fall off. In the starter track from Gear 0 to Gear 5, we fall off 60% of the times. It's in coming back and coming back and coming back each time we fall that we step up to the Champion Track. Yet, on the champion track we fall off 20% of the time and the fall is steeper. It's in coming back and coming back and coming back that we step up to the Mastery track which is when we are on the path 100% of the time.

When we have mastered something, then we raise the bar and take on something new to master. It's an ongoing journey with no destination. Climb to one summit and from that summit, you will see other mountains to climb and other summits to conquer. The journey itself is the destination. The joy is in being on the good to great journey. Success is being on the good to great journey. Failure is to choose to play the good game and deny ourselves the joyous fulfilment of playing the Good to Great game.

RYD Gym is a structure of success for being on your good to great journey. When you complete from the RYD Gym and become a graduate, don't complete from your good to great journey because that belongs to you and is your gift to yourself. Find other structures of success, find other Consciousness Gyms for you to continue elevating your human consciousness to become the greatest version of you to make a massive difference to live your Purpose this Lifetime.

What does Consciousness mean? Consciousness’ refers to one's awareness of one's unique thoughts, memories, feelings, sensations and environment. In other words, consciousness is the quality or state of being aware of one's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Elevating our human consciousness means elevating our awareness of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies through Growth Habits (RYD Habits in our language) to create the highest level of health, fitness and joyous well-being.

Leadership Depth is the inner journey of personal transformation from our default Fear Consciousness to Love Consciousness, from being a Fighter or a Victim or a Rescuer to a Peaceful Warrior, embracing our default fears to become Whole and Complete by stepping into Pure Consciousness and Transcendent Love for greater impact in the world by living our Purpose of Life through our work.  

Business Excellence and Craft Mastery journeys accelerate the Leadership Depth journey. Leadership Depth accelerates the Business Excellence and Craft Mastery journeys is equally true. Business Excellence accelerates the Leadership Depth and Craft Mastery journeys. Craft Mastery accelerates the Business Excellence and Leadership Depth journeys. These are all true statements because each one powers the other two Growth Levers. Therefore, it is important to travel all the three journeys together for us to travel with greater velocity.

How do we measure Leadership Depth?

The measure of Leadership Depth is to Have It All:

i. Deeply fulfilling, successful, profitable business supporting us to live our purpose of life; gifting us with impact, contribution and financial freedom
ii. Loving, harmonious, positive, uplifting relationships at work and at home
iii. Happy, healthy, responsible kids with their genius joyfully expressed
iv. Nourishing, nurturing ourselves to the highest level of health, fitness and joyous well-being - physical, emotional, mental, spiritual
v. Making a massive difference through the work we do

It's a high state of Consciousness that enables us to Have It All. That is what makes the Leadership Depth journey, our inner good to great journey of personal transformation, worthwhile.

RYD Distinctions (a distinct point on the ball of perspective that gives us access to our Power to Create) enable us to strengthen our Leadership Depth. RYD Habits help us to transform the intellectual understanding of the Distinctions into Experiential Understanding which is when our Inner Wisdom awakens.  

Leadership Depth journey is from Gear 0 to Gear 5. At Gear 5, our Power to Create fully blossoms, we step into Pure Consciousness having dissolved Fear (impurities) from our Conscious, Sub-Consciousness and Unconscious Mind to become a Master Creator.

What is Craft Mastery?

The journey of playing to be the World's best, a Master of our Craft, in service of our customers' said and unsaid needs by becoming a Thought Leader and being at the source of Transformation of our industry globally. 

Craft Mastery not for the sake of ambition, but as an outcome of being purpose-inspired to contribute and make a difference. 

Reading and learning not for intellectual stimulation or entertainment or for making us feel good to about ourselves (in other words, for filling the hole in our soul), but for the purpose of contributing to the communities that we are committed to serve. 

Craft Mastery enables the delivery of the Value Proposition at the level that our customers have no right to expect and has them queue outside our door to buy from us, instead of us having to chase them to sell. 

Craft Mastery at its highest is a state of Consciousness in Gear 5 where the game is Excellence not for external applause or external validation but for the God within us, inside of our commitment to make a massive difference to our employee and customer communities. 

Craft Mastery is to play the game to be so good in our work that Gods themselves bow down to us in reverence. If we try to skip the earlier gears (Gear 1 - Love for Self, Gear 2 - Gratitude for all in our Space, Gear 3 - Reverence for all of Life, Gear 4 - Integrity) and jump straight to Gear 5 from Gear 0 to play the game of Craft Mastery, then we are saddled with arrogance which drags us down to the very Hole in the Soul we set out to fill.

At Stage 5 of Craft Mastery, we become Master Contributors.


What is Business Excellence?

The outer journey of professional success by living our purpose through our work, leading our business from good to great, generating a healthy Triple Bottom Line (3P - Profit, People, Planet); creating a legacy by making a massive difference to our employees, customer communities, business partners, investors and all other stakeholders.

i. Nurturing Customer Relationships: Coaching our team to work from Being of Service consciousness, creating a powerful Value Proposition for our customers that makes a massive difference, by marrying what’s missing in the world for them with Craft Mastery. ii. Operational Excellence: Creative ways to reduce our and our team’s time, effort and resources and yet increasing value for our customer communities creating a powerful Profit Proposition. Frameworks to leverage: 1FOR5 (1 Action to fulfil 5 Intentions), DLCM (Do Less to Create More Value), Verne Harnish's Scaling-up Methodology

​iii. Extraordinary Service: Serving and contributing to our customers, employees, business partners, investors and all other stakeholders to the level they have no right to expect; sourced in a powerful People Proposition created through Leadership Depth.

Because our words create our world, here’s what is the RYD definition of common business terms inside of our commitment to transform what it means to be a business, what it means to be a leader and inside of that what it means to be a human being:
